Unexpected Detox: The Hilarious Journey of a Stoned Mouse in a Cannabis Field

Rodents and insects are perpetual nuisances for those tilling the soil, as they often munch on crops and could spread illnesses.

Interestingly, a cannabis field in New Brunswick, Canada—where the herb is legally grown—offered a unique story of natural retaliation.

Here, a mouse was discovered incapacitated, belly-up among the greenery, evidently overwhelmed by its effects.

Finding a “Stoned” Mouse Among Cannabis Leaves

In a humorous twist, Colin Sullivan, a local farmer, stumbled upon this rodent seemingly intoxicated after it had indulged in his cannabis leaves for two consecutive days.

The amusing sight led Sullivan to nickname the creature a “little pothead,” due to its repeated theft and subsequent indulgence in the leaves.

Concerned for its well-being, Sullivan facilitated what he jokingly referred to as a ‘rodent rehab.

The mouse underwent a detox process in a makeshift cage, ensuring it sobered up from its unintended high. After a six-day recovery period, the creature was sprightly enough to be released back into its natural habitat.

The incident didn’t just end there. Sullivan shared this quirky encounter on social media, capturing the attention of friends and followers.

He humorously noted that the mouse, missing an ear, might be self-medicating for PTSD, yet emphasized the need for an ‘intervention.’

With a light-hearted tone, he mentioned his plans to have a ‘serious chat’ with the mouse once it awakened from its unintended stupor.

The Mouse’s Road to Recovery

A few days into the mouse’s rehabilitation, Sullivan took to social media to update everyone on its progress, humorously enclosed within his clear Perspex cage.

It’s been a tough couple of days for our tiny stoned pal here,” he shared. “Despite a bit of a stomachache and some intense cravings, I’m optimistic he’s on the path to recovery.

He explained how the mouse’s diet was carefully controlled, reduced to just one medium-sized cannabis leaf per day, which seemed to help it adjust. “We’re taking it one day at a time, buddy,” he added encouragingly.

Three days later, the big update came: the mouse had successfully completed its stint in rehab. Sullivan couldn’t resist a few playful puns when announcing the news: “On the Rodent Road to Redemption,” he declared.

After a fierce battle with his addiction, our little friend has sifted through his troubles, discarded the unnecessary bits, and is ready to venture forth.

We could all learn from rallying around those in need to help clear the haze from any addict’s life. He’s given his all, earned his first Twelve Step chip, and truly done his best.”

The “Stoner Mouse” Captures the Internet’s Heart

Sullivan’s initial post about the mouse quickly went viral, amassing over 461,000 shares, while his concluding update attracted more than 6,400 shares and 1,500 comments, sparking a wave of laughter and playful jests across social media.

Fans chimed in with supportive and humorous comments. Cody Myshrall expressed his joy, saying, “I’m happy to hear about his recovery.

Rhyll O’Keefe playfully imagined the mouse’s perspective: “‘that was some trip man… don’t know where I was… but I ended up in jail.‘”

Wendy Chaplin acknowledged the mouse’s struggle, commenting, “Withdrawal is hard! Thanks for caring for the little stoner!

Amidst this light-hearted exchange, Sullivan shared a more personal note, paying tribute to his wife, Robyn Sullivan, crediting her with his own sobriety: “She literally saved my life and is the main reason I’ve stayed sober this long…

This heartfelt message resonated with many, leading to further praise for Sullivan’s transparency and his journey towards sobriety.

However, not everyone was amused. One skeptic, Lucy Mizon, speculated that Sullivan was fabricating the story to gain viral fame, noting inconsistencies in the mouse’s appearance that suggested it might be different mice.

People regularly kill rodents for eating their marijuana crops so he’s likely doing this and making a joke out of it,” she criticized.

In response, Jillian Ledonne urged a lighter view: “It got your attention! It made me laugh and I bet thousands more people. Chillax and smile. The world is bad enough.

The saga of the “Stoner Mouse” not only provided entertainment but also sparked a blend of admiration, skepticism, and debate among the online community, reflecting the varied impacts of viral storytelling.

Cannabis in New Brunswick: Legal Insights

Since Canada legalized cannabis in 2018, each province and territory has adopted its own unique approach to managing the substance.

New Brunswick has implemented regulations that foster a safe and legal environment for adult use, emphasizing public health education and seizing economic opportunities.

According to New Brunswick’s official government website, the province is committed to cultivating a responsible culture around cannabis consumption.

It states, “Through our decisions, actions, and policies, we aim to establish a framework that ensures safety and legality, accessible only to adults, while also educating the public and capitalizing on the economic benefits of the cannabis industry.

In New Brunswick, only individuals aged 19 and above are permitted to use cannabis, which must be purchased from licensed outlets. The possession limit is set at 30 grams per person. Public consumption and use in vehicles are strictly prohibited.

Furthermore, landlords have the authority to ban the smoking and cultivation of cannabis on their properties, though they cannot forbid cannabis smoking if they allow tobacco use.

The government also stresses the importance of being well-informed about cannabis, encouraging residents to “understand the risks involved to make educated choices about their personal use of cannabis.”
